Behavior Learning Theory

While reading the article, there were a lot of information that I knew, yet was refined in a way that makes even familiar material different and unique in its own way.  The material presented offers a new way to view the different theories, giving insight and breaking down the theories based on their individual type and giving examples of such.

The behavior and learning theory is that we learn things from behavior. The three subsections of the theories are as follows. Operant conditioning learning, or learning through reinforcement, such as receiving a reward, chastisement, from an action.  If we are given a reinforcement, we are often likely to morph our behavior to either receive, or avoid, that reinforcement. Classical conditioning, or the already established connection between two stimuli, occurs when the original stimuli is absent yet the response is still felt. The social learning theory is one that results in learning from observation, learning from a “model” of the other.

In response to technology, two of the learning theories can be used to integrate technology. The operate theory can be used to provide things such as virtual rewards for those students who complete the necessary content on time. One way I achieve this in my classroom is would be the usage of computer-assisted instruction which gives immediate feedback on material as students complete it. The social learning theory is one that is used in technology directly by sites such as Facebook and Twitter. The usage allows the students to interact with one another and build off one another with different ideas and perspectives. The classical conditioning, in my opinion, is a learning theory that dos not merge well with technology.

In the article “How behavioral theory and social media influenced Public Health England's 'One You'” the authors describe how advertisements are used in relation to the behaviorist theory. This article plays into this as it shows the theories are applicable in other areas. There is to say if the those are used in advertisements, they can also be used in social media.
